About Us

Despite the growing incidence of anal cancer and the growing need for anal cancer prevention efforts, there are no professional societies devoted to establishing and promoting these programs. There is a severe shortage of clinicians trained in HRA, since competence in this technique requires a substantial amount of time and experience. A professional society is needed to organize training efforts and host scientific conferences devoted to anal neoplasia. A professional society is needed to issue position papers and guidelines. A professional entity is needed to encourage the adoption of procedure codes that will allow clinicians to be reimbursed for their anal cancer prevention efforts. Advocacy is needed to encourage insurers to cover the cost of anal cancer prevention programs; increasingly insurers are denying coverage. A society is needed to work with private foundations to educate the general public and clinicians on anal cancer diagnosis and prevention.

We have established the International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS), the world’s first professional society devoted to prevention and treatment of AIN and anal cancer.  Working in close partnership with the Anal Cancer Foundation and other foundations, IANS will promote awareness of HPV, anal cancer and AIN among clinicians and scientists world-wide, advise other professional societies, advocate research and education to governmental agencies, establish a website as an educational resource, conduct scientific meetings, conduct training, and serve as a forum to heighten awareness of anal cancer and exchange of ideas.
