Seminar Series

Training the Educators to Grow the Workforce

The release of screening guidelines for anal cancer prevention has created an immediate increased need for access to high-resolution anoscopy (HRA) and treatment of HPV-associated anal lesions. However, the availability of trained providers and clinics does not meet this need. Competent HRA involves a long learning curve to attain the necessary specialized procedural skills. Teaching and training HRA providers also involves specialized skills. Educators in the field have learned to appreciate the teaching subtleties that help new providers gain the necessary skills. This seminar series is designed to teach experienced HRA clinicians the educational skills needed to train new providers in the procedures related to screening, diagnosing and treatment of HPV-associated anal canal and perianal disease.

The seminar series is appropriate for those providing HRA and office-based treatment of anal pre-cancers. Attendees should have a solid background in HRA, such as several years in clinical practice with an HRA focus and feel comfortable that their own skills meet competency metrics. The course is intended to provide the methodology needed to teach HRA and treatment skills to new providers and to advise clinicians establishing new HRA practices.

Course Director: Naomi Jay, RN NP PhD, FAAN
